Beneficial for learning
Pros

There are so many good things about it like it offers multiple learning options, flexible adaptability, course and learning management, role and rights control and the wide range of modules for exams all stand out to me.

Cons

Using it sometimes is way too difficult that it overwhelms me.

been using ILIAS for over 2 decades and still happy
Pros

We have been using ILIAS at our university for more than 20 years and truly trust this LMS. It offers lots of features for digital collaboration, e-exams and course organization which makes teaching much easier. Also data privacy, security and accessibility have become even more important recently and we are very happy with ILIAS in these areas too.

Cons

I did not find it the most easiest to use. So keep in mind that a certain amount of experience is required to create visually appealing courses and content with it.

Works well for academic setups
Pros

ILIAS is a flexible and highly reliable LMS. Also I really like its design as it is quite modern.

Cons

As it is an LMS software so keep in mind that it is fairly large and might require a fair amount of your effort to maintain.

Meets all our needs
Pros

It is a complete open source learning platform. Also ILIAS's role and rights management is highly flexible and powerful, so there is hardly any thing it cannot handle. Overall it meets all our needs.

Cons

Though it is good and works fine for us however it is not the most user friendly LMS software out there.

Pretty easy to customize
Pros

Starting with ILIAS 7, I would say it is easy to customize the design. Plus with minimal IT knowledge, tutors can create appealing page interfaces in combination with the educational object modules which is great.

Cons

Not a complaint but one thing that surprise me is that it is still not as well known as Moodle.

Empower our education faculty
Pros

It is like an all in one tool that handles almost everything for make which eventually makes course delivery to instructors simple for us.

Cons

There are a few things I would like to mention such as the page design is not the best and it takes quite a few clicks to get things done.

Handles everything well
Pros

ILIAS is very versatile and provides the right tools to us for many learning situations. Plus it can be hosted on premise giving us full control over our data.

Cons

Getting started is quite complex, more than we expected and it is due to the whole lot of variety it comes with. Plus you have to stay on top of things and must have enough staff who are familiar with the process.

Great for higher education
Pros

This excellent tool lets users access and create content easily and supports electronic assessments. Plus delivering content company wide is simple and quick. And the thing I like the most about it is that it automatically generate participation certificates and track learning progress.

Cons

It is not very user-friendly so I'd definitely recommend training to get the most out of it. As managing ILIAS needs some experience. That said its permissions system is really powerful and supports many use cases which makes it great for corporate needs. However in my opinion it also requires at least half of a full-time role dedicated to technical support.

Lets you learn at your own pace
Pros

It has all the features needed to manage content right on the platform. We can create user groups to boost internal networking and turn video tutorials into effective online courses. Also it helps us organize tests and evaluations including final certification for self-paced learners.

Cons

If you understand German there is plenty of documentation available though not everything is translated. Another drawback I noticed is that when users edit a competence profile it is hard for them to track their progress or know when they have completed the profile. Plus at times the PDFs generated files contain errors.
